36th chamber of Shaolin

I had heard amny things about this movie before i was finally able to see it. i saw it the the 2004 Grindhouse festival at the hollywood theater. Gordon liu i knoew to be rad, but i had no idea this movie was so great. I saw this along with the five fingers of death, invicible pole fighter and master of the flying guilitne all in one sitting. This was the real jem though. It has some of the best fighting and the best training sequences ever. the story is above average for a kung fu movie, but seriously that's not hard. Gordon Liu is freaking awesome in this movie and i can't believe it took this long to come out on dvd. Finally i can watch this amazing movie whenever i want. aaaah. Now if only 8 diagram pole fighter would come and on dvd and shoalin vs. wutang.

this a tie with Duel to the Death as my all time favorite kungfu movie.

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex * But Were Afraid to Ask (1972)

Holy crap this movie is funny. It's based on a book very loosely, basicly WA took the chapter titles and made his own stories. There are seven shorts. One is where WA is a jester in midevil times, one where WA is italian, The sodomy one with Gene Wilder was freaking hillarious. this is a really good movie.

Zelig

This is one of the more famous Woody Allen movies, and i can see why. i hadn't seen this movie before and i wish that i had, because it was really good. however if i had seen it before i don't know if i would have gotten it. if this movie was released today it owuldn't be that big of a deal because the stuff that WA did that took him and gordon years i could do on my laptop. the making of the old movies is amazing the technique is phenominal. ok i want to take back my earlier statement. you could do something like that but WA made this movie in with the same materials that they did in the 20's so it looks and sounds very authentic. and they used real experts like susan sontag. cool.

the thing that i think gets overlooked and WA says the same thing is that the story gets overshadowed by the techinque of this movie. so that fact that this is a parrable about being yourself and standingup for what you believe often gets overlooked. for fucks sake this should be shown and explained these days. WA and mia farrow are really good in this movie and it's a shame that the technique often takes a back seat when talking about this ingenious plot and movie.

Die Hard 4

Now before you listen to my review check this out...

freakin awesome right?

okay so live free or die hard is an awesome action movie. it starts out rad and never slows down. it starts out a little like 16 blocks, you other willis fans may or may have not seen his remake of clint eastwoods "the gauntlet" last year, i thought it was cool. anyway mclane starts out saving the "mac kid" and then it just gets wackier and rader until the final minutes of yippie kie ya mutherfucker of an ending. Seriously though if you didn't like the first three this won't change your mind. if you think that a semi truck might have a hard time brining down a brand new f-35, you might not want to see this movie, but if you think that mclane can do anything and that he's a total badass you should see this.

Bananas (1971)

i had heard alot about this movie and it didn't disapoint. It was really funny and had alot of funny gags. i want to watch it again to really sink my teeth into it. Basicly it's the story of a guy who falls in love with a girl who is moving away to a foriegn country. he says he's going also to impress her and ends up running the country, via a series of events.

One of the things that i like so much about woody allen's movies is that there is so much going on. i don't feel empty after watching it like i'd never like to see it again i feel like there are alot of things going on that i might have missed and i want to rewatch and enjoy the things that were there and discover the new ones.

i will however admit that the film isn't for everyone. it's kinda slow. it's dated. and it stars woody allen who you either love or dispise. i love him. and can't wait to see the rest of his catalog.

Woody Allen

So i have decided to give into my obsession and start collecting woody allen movies. As some of you know i am an avid movie collector and for a couple years now i have not had something i was looking for. just spinning my wheels. So it's a double edged sword, i have something to look for again however now i have a money pit to fill up. i jumped in head first though and got the three boxsets that Warner has out. The first one is the one that really got me lusting.

The Prestige

I first saw this movie in the theater and it was the first movie in a long time to actually capture my imagination. What an amazing premise. Totally cool. i didn't know too much about it going into and that is, as always a plus. Hugh Jackman finally made me think he's a good actor and Christian Bale seems to have hit his amazing stride after Equilibrium, making good movie after good movie. Scarlett Johnanson is of course fucking gorgious, and not only that but she's a good actress. Christopher Nolan really hit it out of the park as did the DP. wow. This movie is just really good.
